Champs City Unveil First Official Jersey in Historic Match vs. Rangers

Champs City U14 battled Rangers ‘U14′ on Saturday, 15 November, in a tough encounter that ended 0–1 in favour of Rangers’ team, with the decisive goal scored in the first half by Munachimso Nwoke. Despite sustained pressure and an improved attacking display after the break, our boys were unable to find the equaliser.

One of the major talking points was Rangers’ decision to field mostly players who appeared to be U16 and above, creating a clear physical and age imbalance against our U14 squad. While this disparity influenced the flow and fairness of the contest, our players responded with determination, composure, heart, and admirable team spirit.

Before kick-off, the match was ceremonially opened by the Principal of St. Patrick College, Rev. Dr Frank Eze, who performed the official first kick—adding prestige and excitement to the day’s activities.

Throughout the match, the centre referee and his assistants delivered a credible and well-managed officiating performance that contributed to a fair and organised game environment.

The atmosphere around the pitch was lively, with our partners present in strong numbers, cheering the boys on and interacting with fans. Parents, sports officers from the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, and members of the St. Patrick College community also came out in support, giving the event a strong community feel.

A special moment came after the final whistle when Arinze Okoye of Champs City and Munachimso Nwoke of Rangers were recognised as the two best players of the match. Both were presented with prizes courtesy of FirstBank, our lead partner—an uplifting gesture that celebrated individual brilliance on a challenging day.

The highlight of the day was the official unveiling of the team and the club’s first official jersey—a milestone moment that drew applause and excitement from supporters, signalling growth and a bright future for the club. The unveiling was conducted by the Group Head, South East Group, Kenneth Anyalechi, represented by Irene Yarnap, the Business Manager of Emene branch, adding a celebratory touch to the occasion.

With their heads held high, the boys walked off the pitch with valuable experience and renewed motivation as they look ahead to future fixtures under fair and age-appropriate competition.
